AI in Higher Education

In an era where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming every aspect of society, the field of education is at a crucial turning point. The new European project AI in Higher Education, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, brings together six international partners to support university educators in embracing the opportunities and addressing the challenges of AI-powered teaching.

The project aims to empower educators and pedagogy students by integrating AI tools, methodologies, and ethical practices into modern teaching. Through collaborative innovation, professional development, and cross-sector partnerships, the project will deliver concrete outputs to support AI adoption in diverse higher education contexts.

Innovation for the Future of Teaching

The project partners will jointly develop and test a wide range of resources to guide educators in using AI responsibly and effectively. These include:

  • A comprehensive training programme with hands-on workshops and e-learning modules;
  • A multimedia knowledge-sharing platform featuring educational videos, podcast series, and webinars;
  • An ethical framework for AI in education, ensuring fairness, transparency, and privacy;
  • A customisable online repository of tools and teaching materials for educators;
  • Research on current teaching practices and identification of best points for AI integration.

The consortium will validate these resources through real-life piloting phases, gather feedback from educators and learners, and continuously refine the materials for broader implementation.

Target Groups

The project primarily targets:

  • Educators and lecturers in higher education,
  • Pedagogy students,
  • Teacher trainers and academic mentors.

Secondary beneficiaries include university administrators, policymakers, civil society actors, and the wider public with an interest in future-proof education systems.

A Strong European Partnership

The project is coordinated by Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany) and involves partners from Italy (PRISM Impresa Sociale S.R.L.), Greece (Technical University of Crete), Romania (Transilvania University of Brasov), Poland (FRAME Foundation) and Czech Republic (Language School PELICAN).

This international collaboration allows the project to reflect diverse educational systems, technological readiness, and cultural contexts, contributing to a unique and interconnected European perspective on AI in higher education.
