Language exams

At PELICAN we organise language exams in six world languages at different levels (B1, B2, C1) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. And our national language exam is available to everyone – not just those who have previously taken a language course with us.

Do you want to know details about the exams? Please contact us on info@skolapelican.com, or you can call us +420 774 742 296.

Why is it useful to take language exams?

For pragmatic reasons – you may find yourself sending your CV to dozens of different companies with hope of landing a well-paid and interesting job. HR department employees, managers or directors then receive hundreds of CVs on their desks and sifting through them is a tedious activity… so you have to be able to express your qualities, to “sell” them. That you have studied English for six years and that you understand all the grammatical rules is hardly a stunner. It’s better to keep your CV short and dry: “State English language exam“.

If you’ve been thinking that the national language exam is a nice added value to get a better salary or for some career growth, then let us correct you – language exams are the starting point for finding a job in the first place.

Knowledge of a foreign language is a very common prerequisite for successful university studies. Certificates can be recognised in university admissions, and some schools automatically award language certificates with a relatively high number of points. If approved by the sponsor of the course, the exam can be recognised at university as an exam or credit in the language (always check the university website for up-to-date information).

Jazyková zkouška B1

The B1 exam, or the B1 level exam, is considered as such a basic “clue”, reflecting basic expressive skills in the language and the ability to communicate with a native speaker on simpler topics. The B1 certified exam, which is organised by PELICAN, is included in the list issued by the Ministry of Education and Science, like other standardised exams.

State language exams

We organise state language exams in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Czech at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The practical application of the SJZ certificate starts at secondary school, you can use it at entrance exams and as a student at university, when travelling abroad and in your future working life.

Czech language test for foreigners

We also offer the option of taking the exam online.

A B1 level certificate can be useful when looking for a job or applying to university. Presenting this certificate will allow you to waive the university entrance exam for some languages (always check the university website for the latest information).
For foreigners, knowledge of Czech at B1 level (or above) is essential for studying at university.

Preparatory course for the FCE A TOEFL exam

The ideal way how to prepare for the FCE or TOEFL. As you probably know, these internationally recognised standardised English exams are in demand and an excellent result from these exams has a positive influence. For the successful graduate, it opens the door to interesting study placements, internships, work experience or job positions. A TOEFL or FCE preparation course will practise the key skills of all participants – reading, listening, speaking and writing. In addition, students will develop the necessary ability to understand academic English and also the ability to use it actively. Perfect mastery of the test structure and academic English level guarantee your success in both the FCE and TOEFL exams.

The application of the language certificates

Having a goal is a great thing, especially when it comes to studying. If you do something with a specific vision, you have a much better chance of actually seeing it through.

The PELICAN Language School Brno will not overwhelm you with information about the Common European Framework of Reference and language levels. However, it is important to know that in order to deal with individual certificates, we need a benchmark for comparing their difficulty. This benchmark is the level of the state language exams, which in the Czech Republic is adapted to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and thanks to which in 2016 the state language exam became comparable to international certificates.

It may come as a surprise, but the “paper” you get in PELICAN after passing the exam is really not just for decorating your trophy shelf and showing off to your friends at a party. Come and see how the certificate is actually used in practice!

Applying language exams in later life or “what’s the paper for?”

Whether you choose the “small state” at B2 level or the “big state” at C1 level, it doesn’t just mean that you won’t be afraid to communicate with a native speaker or a foreigner. You have an open door not only to the world, but also to better opportunities at home.

Certificates are also recognised in university entrance examinations, and are even awarded a relatively high number of points at selected colleges. Are you already a college student? If the sponsor of the course gives you permission, you can have your foreign language exam or credit recognised thanks to your state language exam certificate.

This “paper” will of course help you find a job abroad. The big boom nowadays is studying abroad, foreign internships and working abroad. Whether you’re going away for a short period of time or permanently, having a language certificate is very often a prerequisite for a successful start in the world.

Last but not least, the fact that you have passed the national language exam stated on your CV is a big plus when looking for a job. You may know the language, but that doesn’t mean that anyone will believe you in a job interview. In fact, half of all applicants claim to be fluent in everything without a shred of evidence. Don’t be one of them. Convince the recruiter of your qualities quickly and easily with the recruitment certificate!

The PELICAN Brno Language School guarantees that whether you get accepted to university, get a job as a foreign relations manager or go out to discover the beauty of the world, it is definitely very practical to pass the exam. After passing the national language exam, you will have a lifetime of valid proof that you actually know the language at the required level.
